An army aviation crew on a Mi-28NM helicopter as part of a mixed tactical group has disrupted the rotation of Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) units in the border area of Kursk Region. This was reported in the Russian Defense Ministry on January 28.

The ministry added that in the course of the combat mission to support ground troops, the pilots carried out missile launches at specified coordinates, destroying armored vehicles and enemy personnel. The aviation gunner confirmed the destruction of the target.

The crews also performed anti-missile maneuvering at extremely low altitude with the firing of heat traps, which are used to protect against strikes by Ukrainian man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS).

Earlier, on January 27, the Su-35S crew of the Russian Air and Space Forces (VKS) carried out a combat mission to escort fighter-bombers in the border area of the Kursk region. It is reported that accompanied by the Su-35S, the Su-34 multifunctional supersonic fighter-bomber struck an AFU stronghold and personnel with aerial bombs.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
