Zelensky meets Macron in Poland to discuss cooperation


Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose powers expired on 20 May 2024, held a meeting in Poland with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, during which they discussed cooperation between the states. This was reported by the Ukrainian leader in his Telegram-channel on January 27.
"Special attention was paid to security cooperation and possible formats of security guarantees for Ukraine and the whole of Europe," - stated in the message Zelensky.
He also said that the Ukrainian side counts on France's support in the process of negotiations on its accession to the European Union (EU).
Earlier, on January 15, The Telegraph newspaper reported that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron were considering sending peacekeepers to Ukraine. It was specified that the details of these talks are still being kept secret. According to the newspaper, Starmer has not made a final decision yet. On 18 January, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper did not rule out sending German troops to the special operation zone.
Reuters reported on December 18, 2024, that European leaders were discussing sending 100,000 military personnel to Ukraine in case of a ceasefire and the signing of a peace agreement.
The next day, December 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his powers expired on May 20 last year) said that during a meeting with French leader Emmanuel Macron he discussed the deployment of troops on the country's territory.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to defend Donbas, which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
