On January 24, President of the Russian Cynological Federation Vladimir Golubev told why a dog may be afraid of a robot vacuum cleaner and how to help the pet.

In a conversation with Radio 1, the specialist noted that the pet may be frightened not only by the noise the vacuum cleaner makes, but also by its odors, shape and movements.

As Golubev explained, dogs have hypersensitive eardrums and sounds that do not cause discomfort to humans can greatly affect pets.

The specialist pointed out that a dog can suddenly become afraid of the vacuum cleaner, although everything was normal before. This behavior can be the result of a negative experience, when the owner, for example, in the process of cleaning the tail of the dog with the device, or the handle in the off state fell on the pet, or maybe someone from the household jokingly frightened the dog working vacuum cleaner. This can lead to fear in the pet and its aggressive behavior.

Golubev advised to understand the reasons why the dog is stressed or afraid. If it is only the sound, it is worth not to turn on the vacuum cleaner in the room where the pet is, take him to another room for this time.

If the animal is frightened by the object itself, then it is worth gradually starting to accustom it to it. At first, the vacuum cleaner can simply be left in the room so that the dog can sniff it out. The pet should be encouraged for any neutral behavior, writes RT. Then, without turning on the vacuum cleaner, start imitating the movements you make while cleaning. In this way the dog will learn that the vacuum cleaner can move around the room and does not threaten him in any way. You can then leave the vacuum cleaner running for a few minutes at first, then increase the interval. In this way the dog will gradually get used to it.

Earlier, on January 22, Golubev told "Izvestia" whether it is necessary to revise the principles of feeding a dog in the cold. So, in conditions of apartment keeping in pets, a change of diet in the absence of a veterinarian's prescription is not required.

January 16, British cynologist Will Atherton made a list of breeds of dogs, which, in his opinion, it is better not to have a family with children. To such breeds he included such breeds as Border Collie, Akita, Dalmatians, reports 360.ru.

Before that, January 11, it became known that almost 1.7 thousand pets were taken from the city shelters of Moscow in 2024. In total, since 2015 more than 24.6 thousand dogs and almost 7 thousand cats living in 13 city shelters have found a new home, notes the agency of city news "Moscow".

In November, Vladimir Golubev in a conversation with RIAMO said that some of the games can have a detrimental effect on the psychological health of hyperactive dogs. So, the specialist did not recommend playing with the dog laser pointer, games with tug-of-war. He also did not recommend allowing the pet to play long games with relatives without supervision.

In July, veterinarian Marianna Onufrienko in a conversation with NSN told when a dog should be shown to a zoopsychologist. According to her, the cause of negative emotions in the dog can be sharp loud sounds, a new place, contact with strangers. In this case, it is better not to violate the boundaries of the pet or try to distract him with a treat or toy. If you can't find the cause on your own, you should contact a zoopsychologist or cynologist.
