US President Donald Trump during a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi pointed out the importance of increasing India's purchases of US military-industrial complex products. This was stated in a statement released by the White House press office on January 27.
"The two leaders discussed broadening and deepening cooperation. They also discussed a number of regional issues, including security in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East and Europe. The President emphasized the importance of India increasing its purchases of US security equipment and moving towards a fair bilateral trade relationship," the statement said.
In addition, the two leaders discussed plans for Prime Minister Modi's visit to the White House.
India will reportedly host QUAD leaders for the first time later this year. QUAD is a quadrilateral security alliance comprising India, Australia, the US and Japan. This group of nations was created primarily to counter China in the Indo-Pacific region.
