Nebenzia called the thought of a return of Nazism impossible for Auschwitz prisoners

The surviving prisoners of the Auschwitz concentration camp could not have imagined that the decisive role of Soviet soldiers in destroying Nazism and ending the Holocaust would be questioned, Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on January 27.
"The prisoners of Auschwitz could not have imagined that Nazism and neo-Nazism would begin to raise its head in many parts of the world," he said at an event marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day at UN headquarters. The text of the speech was published on the website of the postpresidency.
Nebenzya emphasized that the memory of all victims of Nazism, including Jews, is sacred for Russia. The diplomat called it a common duty to preserve the truth about the Holocaust and other crimes of the Nazis and their accomplices.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin urged to always remember that it was Soviet soldiers who liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp and revealed the truth about the crimes of the Nazis. In addition, on January 21, he pointed to the inadmissibility of the ideologies of fascism, Nazism and militarism raising their heads again.
Every year on January 27, the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust is celebrated around the world. On this day in 1945, the Red Army liberated the largest Nazi death camp, Auschwitz (German: Auschwitz).
