Head of European diplomacy Kaja Kallas urged representatives of the European Union (EU) to learn to talk to the United States in the "language of deals". She made the corresponding statement on January 27 at a press conference after the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

"I think it is obvious to everyone now that the new US administration is talking the language of deals. That means always and on all issues negotiating. We should also talk in this language," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

In addition, Callas did not criticize the American president's statements that Greenland should become part of the United States, in response to a question about whether the "language of deals" extends to discussing the sovereignty of European countries. Instead, she expressed support for Denmark.

She noted that European Union representatives have indicated the need to listen to the U.S. president, "but not to take everything literally." Callas said the United States, among others, is an important EU ally with whom cooperation should be maintained.

Earlier in the day, Politico called Trump's defiance of European Union (EU) heads of state a cold shower for European officials in Brussels. The publication recalled that not a single high-ranking EU representative was invited to the inauguration of the American leader, except for Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni.

The day before, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that Europe would face problems with Trump's return to the White House. He explained that he was referring to the US President's demand for European countries to increase defense spending.

Ben Hodges, the former commander of the US Army in Europe, said on January 12 that the EU should not react to everything Trump declares. In his opinion, European countries should be confident in their capabilities.
