Konstantin Blokhin, a leading researcher at the Center for Security Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and an American political scientist, expressed the opinion that U.S. President Donald Trump is trying to show European officials their subordinate position by showing a dismissive attitude toward them.

In a conversation with Lenta.Ru on Monday, January 27, the specialist noted that such an attitude of Trump to Europe is due to the fact that the Eurobureaucracy despised him and believed that the US presidential candidate from the Democratic Party Kamala Harris would win.

"When Trump won, he began to treat the Eurobureaucracy in the same way as the American bureaucracy, which he despises," Blokhin emphasized.

According to him, nevertheless, one should not expect a breakdown of EU-US ties, as "they have a colossal economic interdependence" formed over decades.

"This attitude is an attempt to show both its importance and that of the US. Europe is not a sovereign independent player for him, but a satellite. Trump puts them in their place, showing their subordinate role," the political scientist concluded.

Earlier on January 27, Politico wrote that the Trump administration's disregard for the leadership of the European Union (EU) and the desire of the American leader to negotiate directly with the heads of the member states of the association became a "cold shower" for European officials in Brussels. For example, not a single high-ranking head of EU bodies was invited to Trump's inauguration, specifies the website aif.ru. The material says that "this is a radical departure from friendly relations," RT writes.

In addition, the head of Eurodiplomacy Kaya Kallas sent the new American Secretary of State Mark Rubio an invitation to the meeting of foreign ministers of the community, but the letter remained unanswered, notes 360.ru.

Also on January 27, kp.ru wrote that in Europe was afraid that the US leader wants to end the conflict in Ukraine without taking into account the opinion of the EU. The reason for this is that Trump often states the possibility of starting negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the Ukrainian conflict one-on-one.

The day before, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that Europe would face problems with Trump's return to the White House. He explained that he was referring to the US president's demand for European countries to increase defense spending.
