Russia's youth soccer team was not allowed to participate in Euro-2027 and OI-2028


The Russian youth national soccer team (players under 21 years old) was not allowed to participate in the qualifying stage of the European Championship 2027. This follows from the information that appeared on January 27 on the website of the Football Association of Wales (FAW).
The Russian team is not listed in the list of participants in the draw, which will be held on February 6 at the headquarters of UEFA in Nyon, Switzerland. At the same time, the national team of Belarus was admitted to the draw.
Thus, the Russian youth team will not play at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, the participants of the soccer tournament at which will be determined by the results of Euro-2027.
Earlier, on December 25, 2024, the president of the Russian Football Union Alexander Dyukov said that the Russian national soccer team in the first half of 2025 may play matches with rivals from Europe. Maxim Mitrofanov, general secretary of the Russian Football Union, told Izvestia at the same time that the Israel Football Federation was in favor of allowing Russian teams to participate in international competitions.
On February 28, 2022 , FIFA and UEFA suspended national teams and clubs from the Russian Federation from participating in all competitions under the auspices of the organizations. As the organizations assured, soccer will become "a vector of unity and peace between nations" if the situation around Ukraine improves.
