Government orders opening of Russian consulate general in Wuhan, China


The Russian government has ordered to open a consulate general of Russia in the city of Wuhan in the People's Republic of China (PRC), it was stated in a decree signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on January 27.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is entrusted to establish the number of staff of the Consulate General and approve its staff schedule.
"Expenses for the opening and maintenance of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in the city of Wuhan to carry out at the expense of budgetary allocations provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia in the federal budget for the relevant fiscal year and planning period for the maintenance of the foreign apparatus," - stated in the text of the order.
Earlier, on January 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks via video link. During them, the Russian leader said that trade turnover between the two countries increased by 7%, to $220 billion, for 11 months, and according to the Chinese side for the year - up to $245 billion. He also drew attention to the leadership of the Russian Federation in the supply of oil and natural gas to China.
In turn, the head of the People's Republic of China declared Beijing's readiness to bring relations with Russia to a new height in 2025. He pointed out that in 2024 the parties solemnly celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. Moscow and Beijing also cooperate closely within the UN, SCO, BRICS and other international platforms.
