The Russian Embassy in Sweden commented to Izvestia on Monday, January 27, on the detention of the vessel in the Baltic Sea.

"According to the Swedish authorities, the vessel Vezhen, registered under the Maltese flag, was detained on January 26 and towed to the port near the town of Karlskrona (in the south of Sweden)," - specified in the office.

The representative office added that there is no official data on the composition of the crew, the Swedish side does not disclose the data.

The day before the Swedish prosecutor's office launched an investigation and detained the vessel, which is accused of sabotage after the breakage of the underwater cable of the company "Latvian State Radio and Television Center" (LVRTC) in the Baltic Sea.

An undersea fiber optic cable between Latvia and Sweden was damaged on January 26 in the Baltic Sea. It is noted that the company's monitoring systems recorded interruptions in data transmission on the section between Latvian Ventspils and Swedish Gotland.

Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silinja said that probably the submarine cable between was damaged by external impact. According to her, the authorities are involving other Baltic Sea countries to solve the problem, as the damage was detected in Sweden's economic zone.
