Ukraine explained the "sweeps" in the country by Zelensky's fear of being overthrown

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (whose term of office expired on May 20, 2024) is afraid of a coup and is therefore conducting "mop-up operations" among politicians. Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik said on January 27.
"(The Kiev regime. - Ed.) just in case is processing those forces and structures inside Ukraine - on the left and right - that could potentially offer an alternative or become an entry point for [ US President Donald] Trump's peace plan," he said in a video on his YouTube channel.
He said that in case Zelensky continues to haggle over the terms of the peace agreement, he should "remove parallel columns" of people who might claim to be willing to honor Trump's terms.
Bortnik also drew attention to the searches conducted among Ukrainian officials and the risk of the emergence of a government "headed by a popular general", Gazeta.ru wrote.
Earlier, on December 18 last year, Irish journalist Chey Bose said that the chances of the Ukrainian leader to win the presidential election, if held in Ukraine, seem quite negligible.
On 16 December, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at an enlarged meeting of the Defense Ministry board that the Kiev regime was losing signs of statehood and that the current Ukrainian leadership was illegitimate.
Before that, on December 2, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed to Ukraine's fatigue with Zelensky. In addition, Peskov noted a change of mood in European countries.
On April 21, Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Berlin Chamber of Deputies from the Alternative for Germany party, told Izvestia that the Ukrainian president was ready to do anything to stay in power.
According to the provisions of the Ukrainian constitution, Zelensky's presidential term ended on May 20, 2024. Elections were supposed to be held in March, but they were canceled due to the martial law imposed by the president in Ukraine, which has been in effect since February 24, 2022.
