A court in the DNR sentenced an AFU mercenary from Georgia in absentia to 14 years in a high-security penal colony.

The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) has sentenced in absentia a 48-year-old Georgian mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), David Kukchishvili. About it on January 27 reported in the press service of the Prosecutor's office of repsublika.

"The court sentenced Kukchishvili in absentia to 14 years of imprisonment with serving the sentence in a correctional colony of strict regime", - stated in the publication on the site.

He was found guilty under part 3 of article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict").

It is established that in June 2014, a citizen of Georgia arrived in Ukraine and voluntarily joined the formation "Georgian partisans", where he received military training and was provided with personal weapons and ammunition.

At the moment Kukchishvili is involved in hostilities on the side of the Ukrainian armed forces. It is specified that as of October 2024, the amount of remuneration of the mercenary amounted to more than 16 million rubles. In addition, before his arrival in Ukraine, he was a captain of the reserve of the defense forces of Georgia.

Earlier in the day, the press service of the prosecutor's office of the DNR reported that the Supreme Court of the Republic sentenced 40-year-old citizen of Georgia Nikolos Berianidze to life imprisonment for the murder of three Russian soldiers. He was found guilty under part 3 of Article 359 and Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Mercenarism, attempt on the life of a serviceman for the purpose of obstructing the legitimate activities of the said person to ensure public security").
