American Democrats are dissatisfied that US President Donald Trump did not keep his promise to "immediately" take measures to regulate high food prices. This was reported by NBC News on January 27.

"During the election campaign, you repeatedly promised that you would lower food prices 'as soon as you came to power'." <...> However, during your first week in the Oval Office, you focused on mass deportations and pardons for those who stormed the Capitol," the letter from Democratic U.S. senators reads.

The document specifies that the only thing Trump has done with food prices is to make an extra mention of their magnitude. The letter was signed by 20 senators.

The presidential administration has not yet responded in any way to the claims against him.

According to NBC, the cost of groceries in the U.S. rose by 1.8% from December 2023 to December 2024. The biggest impact of this jump was on eggs - their prices increased by 36.8% in the above-mentioned period.

On January 20, Trump took the oath of office, becoming the 47th president of the United States. This is his second presidential term, the first time he was the American leader in 2017-2021. In his inauguration speech, the new US president announced the beginning of the "golden age of America".

The election of the 47th president of the United States was held on November 5, 2024. In the national vote, Trump received 51% of the votes, while the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris received 47.4%.
