The Palestinian radical movement Hamas has handed Israel a list of names of 25 out of 33 Israeli hostages to be released in the first stage of the deal. This was reported by Reuters on January 27, citing a spokesman for the movement.

"Hamas has handed over a list to mediators showing that 25 Israeli hostages are still alive, out of the 33 scheduled to be released," the material said.

Israel received the list from the mediators of the cease-fire agreement in the Gaza Strip, it said.

The day before, The Jerusalem Post reported on Hamas plans to release three hostages next week. It was specified that American Keith Siegel, citizen Arbel Yehud and Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldier Agam Berger would be released.

The ceasefire regime in the Gaza Strip began in the morning of January 19. At that time, Hamas handed over three Israeli hostages - Romy Gonen, Emily Damari and Doron Steinbrecher - to Red Cross representatives. Afterward, on January 25, Hamas handed over four more Israeli hostages to the Red Cross, who were taken to their home country. In response, Israel released the Palestinian prisoners.

On January 24, Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya , said that he considered the conflict in Gaza a reflection of Western indifference to the protection of human rights. According to him, even if the Palestinian-Israeli conflict ends now, the risk of death and injury for the children of Gaza will persist for at least 14 more years. That is how long it will take to clear the territory of unexploded shells.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas launched a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip into Israel. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
