The fire in the Grand Kartal hotel in the Turkish ski resort in Bolu province, which killed nearly 80 people, could have been caused by a mistake of its employees who did not turn off the grill. This was reported by local newspaper Sabah on January 27.

According to the newspaper, cooks at the hotel turned on the equipment to prepare food for guests. In the process of cooking, hot oil hit the grill, after which the fire broke out. Kitchen workers tried to put out the flames on their own, but the contact of oil with water only intensified the flames.

It is noted that, seeing the fire broke out, the employees panicked and left the kitchen. The fire alarm system did not go off, and the hotel residents were not notified of the fire.

The massive fire at the resort in Bolu occurred on the night of January 21. According to the latest reports, 78 people died in it. The fire started in a wooden hotel located at an altitude of 2.2 thousand meters. It was specified that there were almost 240 guests in the building. January 26, the owner of the Grand Kartal Hotel Halit Ergul called the hotel staff guilty of the fire. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared January 22 a day of mourning in the country after the tragedy.
