The prosecutor's office of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) has approved the charges in the case against a mercenary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) from Colombia, Montilla Miguel Angel Cardenas. This was reported on January 27 on the website of the agency.

It specified that the 33-year-old Colombian is accused of crimes under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict or hostilities").

According to the investigation, Cardenas, having taken military training courses in Kiev, served as a gunner in the 59th separate motorized infantry brigade of the AFU ground forces.

"Cardenas took part in combat operations against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the town of Krasnogorovka of the DNR. As a result of the above actions, the civilian infrastructure was destroyed, civilians and servicemen were killed," - indicated in the prosecutor's office of the DNR.

Material remuneration for participation in the armed conflict Colombian did not receive, because in June 2024 he was taken prisoner by Russian servicemen.

"The criminal case was sent to the Supreme court of the Donetsk People's Republic for consideration on the merits", - said in the message of the Department.

Earlier in the day, the DNR Supreme Court sentenced 40-year-old Georgian citizen Nikolos Berianidze to life imprisonment for killing three Russian servicemen as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
