AvtoVAZ starts production of Lada Vesta with a new transmission
AvtoVAZ has started equipping Lada Vesta cars with a new transmission - 6-speed manual. The first production cars rolled off the assembly line on January 27, according to the company's statement, which was received by Izvestia.
With a manual 6-speed transmission Vesta will be available in all body types. As noted by the automaker, such a gearbox AvtoVAZ introduces on serial cars for the first time. In the future, the installation of this unit is also possible on other Lada models. Car sales start dates and prices will be announced later.
The mechanical transmission with six stages is produced by a friendly supplier and has a high safety margin, the company said. It is designed to transmit torque up to 220 Nm, and this is enough to work with the 1.8 Evo engine. In combination with it, the unit has passed a cycle of tests, for which 50 prototypes were made, which in total have passed more than 300 thousand kilometers on the stand and 150 thousand kilometers on the roads.
AvtoVAZ said that the new transmission is characterized by a low level of noise and vibration during operation, as well as smoothness and clarity of shifts. All gears, including the rear, are synchronized, with the first and second gears are used three-cone synchronizers with carbon coating of high wear resistance. To introduce the box, AvtoVAZ has adapted the transmission, refined the shift cable drive and adapted it to run on Russian gear oil.
Earlier in the day "Izvestia" found out the terms of the start of sales of a new sporty modification of the classic SUV Lada Niva. Its assembly division "Lada Sport", on whose assembly line AvtoVAZ supplies painted bodies "Niva", pre-production of the model began in late December last year.
On January 22, AvtoVAZ presented a racing version of the Lada Iskra sedan. The car is specially prepared for participation in ice races. The Iskra body is lightweight and equipped with a welded safety cage.
