Politico called Trump's defiance of EU heads of state a "cold shower" for Brussels

US President Donald Trump's administration's disregard for the heads of the European Union (EU) has become a "cold shower" for European officials in Brussels. This was reported by Politico newspaper on January 27.
The publication recalled that not a single high-ranking EU representative was invited to the inauguration of the American leader. The only EU leader from those present was Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
In addition, it is specified that the head of European diplomacy Kaja Kallas sent an "open invitation" to the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the meeting of foreign ministers. According to Politico, this is an "unusual proposal." That said, Rubio has yet to give his response.
"Rubio has spoken to more than a dozen foreign ministers, including four Europeans, <...> but not a single EU official. Cold shower: this is a radical shift in the friendly relations that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other senior EU figures had with the administration of [former U.S. President] Joe Biden," the piece said.
On the eve of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that Europe will face problems with the return of Trump to the White House. He explained that he was referring to the US President's demand for European countries to increase defense spending.
Before that, on January 23, the magazine Foreign Policy called unfounded confidence of European politicians who believe that they are ready for a second term of Trump. The piece specified that Europe is focused on the wrong goals and distracted by political crises and "far from being ready for the challenges".
