Moldovan President Maya Sandu should remember the role of the Red Army in liberating the Auschwitz concentration camp, former Moldovan President and leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon said on January 27.

"Those who deny or deliberately distort history would like to remind that 80 years ago Auschwitz, one of the most terrible symbols of the Holocaust, was liberated by the Red Army, which included Moldovans. Maya Sandu, who is participating in commemorative events in Poland today, should know this," he wrote in his Telegram channel.

At the same time, Dodon called it the height of cynicism that the representative of Moldova votes against resolutions against the glorification of Nazism at UN meetings.

In its turn, the Party of Socialists has always been in favor of preserving historical memory, he pointed out. Dodon also published photos of how he and his associates took part in a requiem rally in Chisinau, honoring the memory of Holocaust victims on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp.

Earlier in the day, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) published archival documents on the inhuman killings by the Nazis at Auschwitz. The killing of people in the camp was carried out by mass extermination with gases in special chambers, shootings, hangings, death by injection and other abuse of prisoners.

On the eve of January 26, Russian Ambassador to Warsaw Sergey Andreev said that diplomats from the Russian Federation will not attend the events dedicated to the anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp. Russian diplomats laid flowers at monuments to the victims of Auschwitz.

Polish journalist and political analyst Maciej Wisniewski said that Poland ignored the date of the liberation of Auschwitz. He accused former Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna of lying, who said that the concentration camp was liberated by Ukrainians. Former German presidential candidate Max Otte also called Warsaw's refusal to invite Russia to the anniversary a scandal.

Every year on January 27, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day is celebrated around the world. On this day in 1945, the Red Army liberated the largest Nazi death camp Auschwitz (German: Auschwitz).
