The removal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term expired in May 2024) from power in the country is not enough to eliminate the conflict, only Russia can bring peace. Viktor Medvedchuk, chairman of the council of the Other Ukraine movement, said on January 27.

"The removal of Zelensky will not mean the establishment of peace in Ukraine at all. Today there are no other parties there but the party of war, and after Zelensky's removal there will be fierce competition between them. <...> Only Russian troops can bring peace to Ukrainian citizens, as the new rulers of Ukraine will not be fundamentally different from Zelensky," he said in his author's column on the "Smotrim.ru" portal.

In his opinion, after the change of power in Kiev, a confrontation between the British and American lobbies may start in a "hot phase".

Before that, on January 22, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reminded that in order to settle the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, it is necessary to eliminate its root causes and achieve reliable guarantees.

The last round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine took place on March 29, 2022 in Istanbul. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow. On October 4, 2022, the Ukrainian president put into effect the decision of the country's National Security and Defense Council on the impossibility of holding talks with Putin.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
