Over the past weekend, 368 traffic accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 49 people were killed and 490 injured. 33 of the dead were drivers and passengers of vehicles. This was reported to "Izvestia" on Monday, January 27, in the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 99 accidents, 45 of which occurred at crosswalks and 53 outside their zone of action, 16 pedestrians were killed, another 126 were injured of varying severity. Among the injured pedestrians were 11 children under the age of 16. Thus, in Krasnodar region the driver of a passenger car in a populated area hit a 14-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the road at an unregulated crossing. The teenager was hospitalized. The cause of the collision was insufficient lighting of the crossing and the absence of light-reflecting elements on the schoolboy's outer clothing.

With the participation of buses at the weekend recorded 19 accidents, which killed two people, another 28 road users were injured. The cause of 12 accidents with buses were violations of traffic rules committed by drivers of other vehicles.

In the Rostov region on a regional highway 28-year-old driver of a passenger car, who in 2024 was brought to administrative responsibility for violations of traffic rules 19 times, when overtaking on the right side of the road collided with another passenger car, moving ahead in the opposite direction, then went into the oncoming lane and collided with an intercity bus carrying 16 passengers. As a result of the accident in the first car, both the perpetrator of the collision and his passenger were killed. In addition, three passengers of the bus were hospitalized with injuries, four more required medical care, after which they were sent for outpatient treatment.

The traffic police urged drivers to observe traffic rules, to take into account the requirements of markings, road signs and traffic signals, to refuse risky manner of driving, not to create emergency situations on the road.

With participation of minors during the weekend 34 road accidents were registered, as a result of which 39 young road users were injured, 28 of them were passengers. One schoolgirl-passenger died.

So, in one of the settlements of Krasnodar region 16-year-old teenager in rain conditions when passing an unregulated intersection did not give advantage in movement and collided with another passenger car moving on the main road. The teenager did not have a driver's license for the passenger car, the vehicle's registration had been terminated in the past year, and the car had false license plates from another vehicle. The car accident killed the 14-year-old sister of the perpetrator of the accident, who was in the back seat of his car at the time of the collision without using a seat belt. Both drivers and another passenger in the first car were hospitalized with injuries.

"Parents are reminded that failure to supervise their children's behavior and leisure activities over the weekend, as well as their accessibility to vehicles, often results in injury or death to young road users. Do not leave children and teenagers who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category, keys to moto and motor vehicles, thus excluding the very possibility of a dangerous trip. In addition, we draw the attention of parents to the administrative responsibility for allowing children who do not have a driver's license to drive vehicles", - said "Izvestia" deputy head of the department of road safety propaganda and prevention of child traffic injuries of the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Anton Belan.

On January 23, the Russian Interior Ministry proposed to change the procedure for drawing up protocols when traffic inspectors detect drunk drivers. The draft federal law is undergoing a procedure of public discussion. Now, when detecting a driver with signs of intoxication, it is necessary to draw up three to five procedural documents. Drawing up these protocols in a number of cases seems redundant, the Interior Ministry said.
