Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a case against a US mercenary for invading the Kursk region

A criminal case has been opened against US mercenary Michael Jones, who invaded Kursk Region as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported in the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation on January 27.

"The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case against a citizen of the United States of America Michael Jones. He is suspected (in absentia) of committing a terrorist act and mercenarism (paragraphs "a", "v" part 2 of article 205, part 3 of article 359 of the Criminal code of the Russian Federation)", - stated in the Telegram-channel.

According to the investigation, in late 2024, for a fee, the mercenary illegally crossed the Russian border and invaded the territory of the Kursk region in the VFU to commit a terrorist attack, as well as destabilizing the activities of the authorities and committing crimes against civilians.

Indicated that the investigation is taking measures to establish the location of Jones and his further detention.

Earlier, January 22, the mercenary from Colombia Pablo Puentes Borges, suspected of committing a terrorist attack in Kursk region, was taken into custody. Also, the Main Military Investigation Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case against the mercenary.

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of the Kursk region on August 6, 2024. The situation in the region was recognized as a state of emergency of federal character. The liquidation of the Ukrainian militants who invaded the Russian territory is underway.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
