Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged to always remember that it was Soviet soldiers who liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp and revealed the truth about Nazi crimes. A statement to this effect was published on January 27 on the Kremlin website.

"In January 1945, the Red Army liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp, revealing to mankind the truth about the crimes of the Nazis and their henchmen who exterminated millions of Jews, Russians, Roma, representatives of other peoples. And we will always remember that it was the Soviet soldier who crushed this terrible, total evil, won the Victory, the greatness of which will forever remain in world history," reads the message of the Russian President, timed to coincide with the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the prisoners of the Auschwitz concentration camp by the Red Army.
