Ukrainian MP rejects Zelensky's idea of Azeri gas transit

The idea of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose powers expire in May 2024, to supply Azerbaijan's gas to Europe via Ukraine is unrealizable because fuel from the Transcaucasian republic cannot be pumped into the Ukrainian gas pipeline. This was stated on January 27 by the Deputy of the Rada Alexander Dubinsky, who is in pre-trial detention on suspicion of state treason.
"Simply for physical reasons - the pipe from Azerbaijan enters the Russian Federation. That is, Azerbaijan blows its gas to the Russian Federation, and the Russian Federation - blows a similar volume to us," - wrote the MP in his Telegram-channel.
Because of Zelensky's statements, Dubinsky called him a "hypocrite", who once again deceives people.
Earlier, on January 22, Zelensky met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The Ukrainian leader told journalists on January 25 that the transit of Azerbaijani gas for export to Europe had been discussed and that Ukraine's gas transportation system could allegedly be used for this purpose.
President of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR) Vadym Krasnoselsky said on 24 January that the situation against the background of the cessation of gas transit through Ukraine remained grave. At the same time, he appealed to the UN with a request to do everything possible to help the republic cope with the energy crisis and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe. On the same day, DMR residents went to rallies against the cessation of Russian gas supplies to the republic.
Lubosh Blaha, a member of the European Parliament (EP) from Slovakia, said on January 22 that Zelensky had betrayed Europe because of his decision to stop gas transit from Russia. The parliamentarian pointed out that Kiev had thus declared an energy war on Bratislava, which intends to defend itself. In addition, Blaha called the Ukrainian leader a dictator and a lobbyist acting in the interests of American energy companies.
"Gazprom" on January 1, 2025 announced the suspension of gas supplies through Ukraine. On the same day, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo said this would have drastic consequences for the EU, but not for Russia.
Zelensky said in late August 2024 that Kiev had no plans to extend its gas transit agreement with Moscow, while Russian President Vladimir Putin later pointed out that Russia was not giving up gas transit through Ukrainian territory.
