Danish PM summons Nordic countries to discuss Greenland

At an informal dinner hosted by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Scandinavian heads of state discussed US President Donald Trump's statements on Greenland and the new world order. This was reported by TV2 on Sunday, January 26.
The dinner was attended by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Norwegian Prime Minister Junas Gahr Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.
"I can repeat the kingdom's message: Greenland is not for sale and we want to keep our commonwealth [Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands] as long as Greenland wants it," Frederiksen said.
The prime minister also noted that her government is in contact with the new administration in Washington and is discussing security issues in the Arctic region with them.
Earlier, on January 25, President Trump during a telephone conversation with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen insisted on the acquisition of Greenland. Trump was reportedly aggressive and conflicted.
On Jan. 23, Per Clausen, a member of the European Parliament (EP) from Norway, raised questions about the European Union's (EU) response to U.S. President Donald Trump's threats against Greenland. Clausen questioned the EC on what means the EU has to respond to possible economic pressure from the United States.
On the eve of the EP MP from Denmark Anders Vistisen, using profanity, called on Trump to stop talking about the idea of buying Greenland from the kingdom, because, according to him, the island is not for sale, reports IA Regnum. He emphasized that Greenland is a fully integrated part of Denmark.
Chairman of Greenland's largest opposition party "Naleraka", the island's MP Pele Broberg suggested on January 20 that Trump should make a "win-win" deal on the island's independence. The island would then be able to reclaim its land and enter into a defense agreement with the United States.
On Dec. 22, 2024, Trump said it was an absolute necessity for the U.S. to own and control Greenland. He had previously expressed interest in buying the island from Denmark in 2019 but was turned down. In the coming year, Trump was also indicated to Trump that the island is not for sale and will not be sold, but Denmark can cooperate more with the US.
