US Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville on 26 January acknowledged Russia's significant advantage in the conflict in Ukraine.

According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want to negotiate because Russia's army has a significant advantage in the conflict due to the failed actions of Ukraine and NATO countries.

"Why would he want to negotiate with anyone? Why would you want a deal if you are winning? He's winning," The Hill quoted him as saying.

Taberville is convinced that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) can no longer win.

Earlier in the day, Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov said that the coverage of the conflict in Ukraine in the Western mass media had changed. According to him, the Western media are making a telling turn from a complete denial of the possibility of Russia's victory to a "collective recognition" that Russia is winning.

At the same time, the British newspaper The Times presented four possible scenarios for ending the conflict in Ukraine. The first scenario indicated a military defeat of Kiev. The second scenario indicates the division of Ukraine against the backdrop of an end to support from the European Union (EU) and the United States. The third option suggests a "ceasefire" without any global changes. The last scenario considers a situation in which Ukraine would be able to start negotiations with Russia "from a position of strength."

On January 24, Lucas Leiros, an analyst at the Center for Geostrategic Studies, said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term expired on May 20, 2024) had started talking about the possibility of a peace deal to cover up failures in the war zone. The expert noted that since the fall of 2022, Kiev has not responded to calls for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Before that, on January 23, Zelensky admitted the possibility of negotiations with Putin if Trump gives Ukraine security guarantees. According to him, the only question for him is what guarantees we are talking about, and he wants to have this understanding before the negotiations.

A day earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reminded that in order to resolve the crisis, it is necessary to address its root causes and secure guarantees.

The special operation to protect Donbass, which Russia announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
