Turkey, because of the attack on a hospital in Sudan, called for similar attacks to be prevented

The Turkish Foreign Ministry on Sunday, January 26, condemned the attack on a Saudi hospital in El Fasher in Sudan and called for respecting international law.

"We strongly condemn the attack on the Saudi hospital in El Fasher, Sudan, which left many people dead. We extend our condolences to the families of the victims and the people of Sudan and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. We reiterate the need to respect international law," the ministry said in a statement.

The Foreign Ministry also emphasized that "civilian infrastructure should never be the target of attacks."

According to the Associated Press, the attack on a hospital in Sudan's Darfur region killed about 70 people. The agency emphasizes that it was the only functioning hospital in the region.

The information on the death toll was initially shared by the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Saudi Arabia's Foreign Ministry condemned the attack as a "violation of international law".

Earlier, on September 26, 2024, it was reported that Sudan's army launched a massive offensive on the capital Khartoum to dislodge Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) fighters from the city and fierce fighting. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at the time that Russia was concerned about what was happening in Sudan and was trying to facilitate a settlement.

The situation in Sudan escalated in mid-April 2023 due to disagreements between the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the head of the SIS Mohammed Hamdan Daglo. On the morning of April 15, clashes between the army and special forces began near a military base in the city of Meroe and in Khartoum. The ongoing conflict has created a humanitarian crisis in the country, leading to famine and disease outbreaks.
