Danish court refuses to extradite suspected Russian spy

The High Court of Western Denmark has refused to extradite to Ukraine a Russian citizen suspected of espionage. This was reported by the BT newspaper on 26 January.
According to the newspaper, the court also rejected a request for extradition of a Ukrainian accused of stealing jewelry and embezzlement of cash in four burglary cases.
"For both there is a risk that they will be harmed", - stated in the publication.
It is noted that the basis for the refusal was the assumption of the court about the likelihood of torture and other forms of inhuman treatment to both defendants, despite the diplomatic guarantees of human rights presented by Kiev.
Earlier, on December 18, 2024, the Polish authorities handed down a sentence against Russian ice hockey player, 21-year-old Maxim Sergeyev, accusing him of alleged spying activities. The athlete received two years and 11 months in prison, he will also have to pay a fine of €1220. In May 2025, Poland must deport the hockey player to his home country. Until then, he will be held in Lublin prison.
