President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenski, whose term of office expired on May 20, 2024, hollered as much as he could during the negotiations with Russia in 2022. This statement was made by Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko to journalists on January 26.

"Zelenski hollered as much as he could. We agreed to hold the first meeting in Gomel, let's say at 11:00, but they arrived only at night. And, frankly speaking: I've already held the Russians," said Lukashenko, whose statement was published in the Telegram-channel "Pool One."

He added that there was an incident when the Ukrainian delegation postponed the meeting from Gomel because the Russian border was nearby. Negotiations were held in Belovezhskaya Pushcha, in Istanbul and Kazakhstan. The Belarusian leader noted that he had met all the requirements of the Ukrainian side to exclude the termination of negotiations.

Earlier, on January 24, US President Donald Trump accused Zelensky of obstructing the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, a peace agreement with Russia was not reached, as the Ukrainian leader "wanted to fight".

In addition, the American leader reported the desire to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin as soon as possible to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine. The leader of the United States noted that he intended to see the Russian President to stop the wasting of millions of lives.

On January 22, Zelensky admitted the possibility of talks with Putin if Trump gives Kiev security guarantees. According to him, the only question for him is what kind of guarantees we are talking about, and he wants to have that understanding before the talks.

The last round of talks between Russia and Ukraine took place on March 29, 2022 in Istanbul. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow. On October 4, 2022, the Ukrainian president put into effect the decision of the country's National Security and Defense Council on the impossibility of holding talks with Putin.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
