US President Donald Trump has reiterated that he expects to talk to Russian leader Vladimir Putin soon.

"He (Putin. - Ed.) wants to talk, and we will talk soon," TASS quoted Trump as saying on January 26, citing journalists from the White House press pool.

Earlier, on January 24, Putin said that his relations with Trump are trusting and pragmatic. The head of state noted that there was no fault of the Russian Federation in the fact that the previous US administration had refused contacts with the Russian side, adding that Moscow had never refused them.

On the same day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia considers Trump's desire to establish direct communication with Moscow commendable. According to him, if it is possible to return relations to normal, it will be a significant achievement.

Prior to that, Trump said he wanted to meet with Putin as soon as possible to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine. The leader of the United States noted that he intends to see the Russian President to stop the waste of millions of lives.
