Russian diplomats will not go to the commemorative events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Auschwitz in Poland. Russian Ambassador to the republic Sergei Andreyev said on January 26.

"Theoretically, of course, we could appear there, but to be present at an event where no one will remember who liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp, Europe, so we have nothing to do," Andreyev told RIA Novosti.

He said that the organizers of the anniversary are posting messages inviting those wishing to attend the events, but Russian diplomats will mark the anniversary "properly" in their own circle.

Earlier, on January 23, Rabbi Alexander Boroda said at a press conference at the Izvestia IEC that Jews in the Russian Federation feel badly that the country's representatives were not invited to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The community advocates that the truth about Russia's true contribution to the victory in World War II and to the rescue of Jews should be heard louder and louder. Beard added that Jews also remember the help of other nations, such as Serbs, Albanians, Bulgarians and Danes.

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin said on October 19, 2024, that Poland's refusal to invite Russian representatives to commemorate the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz insults the memory of Holocaust victims. The deputy head of the Serbian government emphasized that Russia was not invited because of disagreement of the Western countries with its policy, reports "Gazeta.Ru".

Every year on January 27, the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust is celebrated around the world. On this day in 1945, the Red Army liberated the largest Nazi death camp Auschwitz (German Auschwitz).
