Politicians in the European Union (EU) countries have started making tougher statements regarding the conflict in Ukraine, and there is no such thing in Russia or the USA. This was stated by former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl on January 26.

"Now the language in the European Union has become much tougher than the language, at least that we heard in the US Senate hearings. <...> German politicians, Dutch politicians are constantly talking about 'war taxes', 'war economy'," Kneissl told RIA Novosti.

At the same time, the former foreign minister emphasized that she had never heard such phrases either in Washington or from representatives of Moscow.

Earlier, on January 15, NATO Secretary General and former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte said that it was time for the alliance to switch to a "wartime way of thinking", reports "Gazeta.Ru". According to him, it is necessary to fight a large number of dangers, such as terrorism, nuclear proliferation, disinformation and climate measurement. Rutte noted that the countries of the bloc are increasing investments in defense and conducting more military exercises to address these problems.

Later, on January 25, Polish National Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said that European countries should increase defense spending and then they will create an image of a trustworthy ally for the United States, and this could lead to changes not only in EU policy, but also in NATO.

U.S. President Donald Trump, for his part, suggested on January 23 that Washington should stop sponsoring the North Atlantic Alliance because the United States helps the bloc but gets nothing in return.
