- A veterinarian has pointed out the reasons for dogs tucking their paws in while on walks
Marianna Onufrienko, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, an expert at the Center for the Study of Nutrition and Animal Welfare, said on January 26 that the main reason why a dog pushes up its legs during a walk is frost.
"In the frost, ice can stick to the space between the pads of the paws, and clumps of snow packed there make it difficult for the animal to move. The dog can immediately begin to limp and push up his paws, because it gives the pet pain and discomfort," - said the veterinarian in conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".
She added that in this case it is worth wiping the paws of the pet with a napkin and go home to a warm room.
Also the phenomenon may have another reason - reagents, which are sprinkled on the road from ice. Contact of the paw pads with this substance can cause discomfort or even discomfort for the pet.
A good way to combat this threat is to pre-treat the animal's paws with a special balm or wax. This will create a protective barrier between the dog's skin and aggressive surfaces on the street, including those with reagents.
You can also buy dog shoes or socks for the pet. Especially useful such an update will be for small animals with more delicate pads.
Earlier, on January 22, the President of the Russian Cynological Federation Vladimir Golubev told "Izvestia" about the rules of compiling a diet for dogs in winter. According to him, in winter, the pet owner notices that the dog moves less. It can rest more, refuse to take long walks. All this affects the physical condition. In addition, being at home, the dog may come to the bowl more often or beg for treats. Many people can not resist the questioning look of the pet and spoil him with different treats. As a result, the dog may become overweight.
