Russian universities increased the number of places and changed the composition of entrance exams

Russian universities in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation have reported changes in the admission campaign for the 2025/2026 academic year. They told TASS about it on January 26.

Almost all the surveyed universities increased the number of budget and paid places. Thus, in the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration for full-time educational programs of bachelor's, specialist and master's degree the number of places increased by 11%, in the Plekhanov Russian Economic University - by 18%, and in the National Research University Higher School of Economics - by 4.1%. In PFUR the most budgetary places were allocated in the fields of exact, technical and natural sciences.

In addition, according to the order of the Ministry of Education and Science, the composition of entrance tests has changed in a number of programs. RANEPA and PFUR now do not require a foreign language for admission to certain programs.

In accordance with the action plan to improve the quality of mathematics and science education, which was approved by the Russian government, in 2026 it is planned to introduce a mandatory entrance exam in physics for all engineering programs of higher education.

In 2025, Bauman Moscow State Technical University retains three possible subjects for admission, but from this year on the majority of directions introduced mandatory physics, when previously it was possible to choose informatics. It is reported that from 2026 the concept of four USE will be established: for admission it will be necessary to have test results in both physics and computer science.
