- Lebanese residents announced a protest against the postponement of the IDF withdrawal from the country

Residents of southern Lebanon have announced a protest as Israel has decided to postpone the withdrawal of its troops from the country under a 60-day truce agreement. This is reported on January 25 by Al Nahar.
It is noted that the residents of the southern districts plan to gather on January 26 at around 7 a.m. and return to their homes in the settlements of Aita al-Shaab, Blida, Kfar Kila, Houla and Yarin in a single procession.
The publication notes that Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Avihai Adrai issued a warning to residents of southern Lebanon on the social network X (formerly Twitter). He said that the IDF is still in the south of the country to withdraw Hezbollah.
A day earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said Israel, in coordination with the U.S., will continue to gradually withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon after the 60-day deadline of an earlier agreement with Lebanon's Shiite movement Hezbollah expires.
Earlier, the UN peacekeeping mission told Izvestia on December 21, 2024, Israel withdrew its troops from only one town in southern Lebanon during the truce with Hezbollah. The deployment of the Lebanese army has so far only been possible in areas that Israeli troops have left, said Andrea Tenenti, spokesman for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The beginning of the indefinite ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel on November 26, 2024 was reported by former US President Joe Biden. According to the document, within 60 days, starting November 27, Israel must gradually withdraw its troops from the neighboring country. After that, Netanyahu thanked Biden during a telephone conversation for his help in concluding the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters the same day that Russia is positive about the Israeli and Lebanese ceasefire agreement. He pointed to the importance of placing Lebanese armed forces in their prescribed regions so that Israel's army can begin a gradual withdrawal.
The escalation of hostilities between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah came after the events of Sept. 17 and 18, when thousands of people, including members of the movement's staff, were injured when pagers and other communication devices exploded in Lebanon. The country blamed Tel Aviv for what happened. Since then, Israel has continued to eliminate the leadership of the Shiite movement and strike Lebanese territory.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected Israeli territory to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
