An officer and a soldier were injured in southern Lebanon when an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) SUV was hit by a mine on Saturday, January 25.

According to Elnashra, the injured Israeli soldiers were evacuated by military medical helicopter to a hospital inside Israel after sustaining injuries.

Earlier, on December 21, 2024, the UN peacekeeping mission told Izvestia, Israel withdrew its troops during the truce with Hezbollah from only one town in southern Lebanon. The deployment of the Lebanese army has so far only been possible in areas that Israeli troops have left, said Andrea Tenenti, spokesman for the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The beginning of the indefinite ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel on November 26, 2024 was reported by former US President Joe Biden. According to the document, within 60 days, starting November 27, Israel must gradually withdraw its troops from the neighboring country. After that, Netanyahu thanked Biden during a telephone conversation for his help in concluding the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters the same day that Russia is positive about the Israeli and Lebanese ceasefire agreement. He pointed to the importance of placing Lebanese armed forces in their prescribed regions so that Israel's army can begin a gradual withdrawal.

The escalation of hostilities between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah came after the events of Sept. 17 and 18, when thousands of people, including members of the movement's staff, were injured when pagers and other communication devices exploded in Lebanon. The country blamed Tel Aviv for what happened. Since then, Israel has continued to eliminate the leadership of the Shiite movement and strike Lebanese territory.

The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected Israeli territory to a massive rocket attack from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
