In Berlin, at least 100,000 people came out to protest against the far-right party "Alternative for Germany" (AdG) and possible cooperation with it by other parties. About it on Saturday, January 25, reports the edition Bild.

At least 40 thousand more people are protesting in the German city of Cologne, the DPA agency writes with reference to police data.

Despite the rainy weather, people gathered in front of the Brandenburg Gate to express solidarity with the "sea of lights" organized by the Campact, Parents Against the Right and Fridays for Future movements, which they protest against right-wing extremism and the AdG.

"The defense of democratic parties against cooperation with the AdG must stand," demanded Christoph Bautz, founder of Campact and one of the initiators of the demonstration.

As the tabloid notes, Bautz appealed directly to Merz: if he seeks a common majority with the AdG on migration issues, "an uprising of decent people will erupt in this country."

Earlier, on January 20, German media reported that in the Bundestag next week may bring up the issue of banning the political party "Alternative for Germany". According to it, such an application was submitted to the German parliament by a cross-party group of deputies, including a politician from the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) Karen Wegge, who called on the Bundestag to support the initiative.

Before that, on January 19, the Bild newspaper published the results of a poll conducted by the INSA public opinion institute, according to which 57% of Germans surveyed believe that the conservative bloc of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) will win the early elections to the Bundestag scheduled for February 23, 2025, while 17% are confident in the victory of the AdG.
