Cable cars near burned-out hotel in Turkey turned out to be second-hand

Chairlifts and cable cars at the Turkish ski resort Grand Kartal, where 78 people died in a fire, were installed 32 years ago. The Yeni Akit newspaper reported on January 25.
"Another chain of negligence has emerged at the Grand Kartal hotel, where 78 people died in a fire that broke out in Kartalkaya. It was alleged that the chairlifts and cable cars belonging to the hotel were 32 years old and in a state of disrepair," the publication said.
It is noted that the installed system was dismantled and brought second-hand from Austria. The ski instructor, who wished not to disclose his name, said that the mechanical installations were very old.
"On the side of Kartalkaya used by the group, which includes the hotel, the last mechanical facility was built 32 years ago," he said.
The massive fire at the resort in Bolu occurred on the night of Jan. 21. According to CNN Türk, the fire started in a wooden hotel located at an altitude of 2,200 meters. It was specified that there were almost 240 guests in the building. Erdogan declared January 22 a day of mourning in the country after the fire.
January 24, it was reported that the court arrested the owner of the hotel Grand K artal in the ski resort Kartalkaya, where the fire killed 78 people. On the same day, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that all those responsible for the incident will be brought to justice.
