- The media accused Zelensky of changing his rhetoric to divert attention from the failures of the AFU

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term expired on May 20, 2024) has started talking about the possibility of a peace deal to cover up failures in the war zone. This was reported on January 24 by Lucas Leiros, an analyst at the Center for Geostrategic Studies.
"It is interesting to see such a statement by Zelensky, given that the Ukrainian leader has already signed a decree banning any diplomatic talks with Russia," InfoBRICS quoted him as saying.
Leiros noted that Ukraine has not responded to calls for a peaceful resolution of the conflict since the fall of 2022.
In addition, the analyst pointed out that Kiev cannot set conditions for possible negotiations due to failures on the front. In his opinion, the solution to this issue depends solely on Russia,Gazeta.Ruadded.
Earlier, on January 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that perhaps Kiev's sponsors will force Zelensky to reverse the decision to ban negotiations with Russia. He added that the Ukrainian leader was in no hurry to fulfill their instructions. However, eventually they will force him to cancel the adopted decree.
On January 23, Zelensky allowed the possibility of negotiations with Putin if the American leader Donald Trump gives Kiev security guarantees. According to Zelensky, the only question for him is what kind of guarantees we are talking about, and he wants to have that understanding before the talks.
The day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reminded that in order to resolve the crisis, it is necessary to address its root causes and achieve reliable guarantees.
The last round of talks between Russia and Ukraine took place on March 29, 2022 in Istanbul. They lasted about three hours. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow. On October 4, 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky put into effect the decision of the country's National Security and Defense Council that it was impossible to hold talks with Putin.
The special operation to protect Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
