- Russian Embassy congratulates US veterans on the anniversary of the lifting of the blockade

Employees of the Russian Embassy in the United States congratulated veterans living there on the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the siege of Leningrad. This is reported in the Telegram-channel of the diplomatic mission on January 25.
"Each of us cherishes the memory of our heroes - our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers, mothers, grandmothers and great-grandmothers, who with incredible labor and courage forged the Victory on the front line and in the rear. We especially appreciate the fact that Russian diplomats still have the opportunity to communicate with witnesses of the war years of 1941-1945," the statement reads.
On the eve of the anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad, embassy staff and the attaché's office held a meeting with veterans who live in America. They handed over a message from St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov on the occasion of the memorable date, and also handed over anniversary diaries prepared about the main milestones of the Great Patriotic War.
In the year of the Defender of the Fatherland and the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the diplomats emphasized the importance of passing on to the next generations the truth about the events of those years and the price that Russians had to pay to save the peoples of the world from extermination. In addition, the embassy officials noted the need to suppress falsification of history and any manifestations of neo-Nazism.
"We bow before the generation of Heroes! We wish them good health and prosperity! No one is forgotten and nothing is forgotten!" - the diplomats congratulated the veterans.
Leningrad was completely liberated from German troops on January 27, 1944. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the lifting of the blockade.
The siege of the city lasted 872 days and claimed the lives of more than 1 million people. It was possible to break through the Nazi ring, which had tightened around the city, at the sixth attempt thanks to the operation "Spark". The only way to deliver food to the besieged city was the Road of Life, laid on the ice of Ladoga. On January 27, 1944 the blockade was lifted.
