Murder of a woman will no longer be an aggravating circumstance in Argentina

The Argentine government will remove the aggravating circumstance of "murder of a woman" (femicidio, femicide) from the country's criminal code. This was announced on January 25 by Justice Minister Mariano Cuneo Libarona to the social network X.
According to Libaron, the government should take into account the gravity of the crime regardless of the gender of the victim.
"We will remove the concept of "femicide" from the penal code. Our government protects equality before the law. No life is worth more than another," the politician informed.

At the same time, in 2021, thousands of Buenos Aires residents came out to a rally against violence with a demand from the authorities to stop femicide.
The reason for the protest was the death of Ursula Bahillo, who was killed by her partner. She had previously accused him of beating her, but the police did not respond to the complaints. Demonstrations against femicide have been held in the country since 2015.
