- State Duma deputy responds to Trump's words about his desire to reduce nuclear arsenals

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Alexei Chepa expressed confidence that Russia will be interested not only in disarmament and denuclearization of the United States and China, but also in the world as a whole.
Thus, in a conversation with Lenta.Ru on Friday, January 24, the parliamentarian reacted to the words of US President Donald Trump about a possible deal on this issue.
Earlier on January 24, Trump said in an interview with Fox News channel that he could agree with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the denuclearization of Russia and the United States, after which he would involve China in the deal.
The lawmaker noted that although the U.S. leader was talking about Moscow and Beijing, the issue is broader than that. He pointed out that Russia would be interested not only in disarming and denuclearizing the US and China, but also the world as a whole. Chepa emphasized that the situation in the world has escalated and many politicians have begun to announce the possibility of using nuclear weapons, and this is extremely dangerous.
Chepa added that "there should be parity here," since such statements are made, in particular, by Great Britain, France, the United States and other NATO countries that are carriers of nuclear weapons, so "it is impossible not to take into account their potential, reducing our own." According to him, the US has all along insisted on taking China's arsenal into account, but it is necessary to denuclearize the world as a whole.
"Therefore, this approach of Trump's is probably correct," Chepa concluded.
Earlier on January 24, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu warned in a conversation with TASS about the growing risk of a clash between nuclear powers. According to him, Western countries have unleashed "ideological and value aggression" against Russia and Belarus. According to the Secretary of the Security Council, these actions of the West have a negative impact on the international situation, reports 360.ru.
On January 23, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump said that the US would like to reduce its nuclear arsenals together with Russia and China. Trump emphasized that the U.S. is ready to go for nuclear disarmament only if Russia and China also agree to its destruction, writes IA Regnum. According to Trump, he has already discussed this issue with Vladimir Putin. Trump noted that the Russian leader liked the idea, and also expressed the opinion that China could also join the initiative, RT writes. The American president assessed China's nuclear potential, saying that they have fewer warheads, but Beijing is "actively working on it," kp.ru reported.
On October 9, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the level of nuclear danger in the world has seriously increased due to the West's actions, and Moscow urges the US to realize the possible consequences.
