In Sochi the property of the defendants in the case of embezzlement of lands of the national park was arrested

In the Krasnodar region, the property of the defendants in the criminal case on embezzlement of especially valuable lands of the Sochi National Park has been arrested. The total value of the arrested assets exceeded 1.5 billion rubles, reports the regional prosecutor's office on Friday, January 24.

"The body of preliminary investigation together with the prosecutor's office of the city of Sochi established all the property of the defendants, acquired at the expense of funds obtained by criminal means, including expensive real estate and stolen land plots, registered to fictitious owners, for a total amount of more than 1.5 billion rubles," - stated in the message.

The arrest was made to ensure the enforcement of the sentence. In the future, the property will be confiscated in order to compensate for the damage caused to the state and flora, the KrasnodarMedia news agency specifies.

Experts are still assessing the damage caused to the National Park by cutting down the relic forest on the territory of the stolen plots. The Sochi Prosecutor's Office keeps the investigation of the criminal case under special control.

The criminal case is being investigated under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Fraud committed on a particularly large scale".
