Bloomberg has learned of Meta's plans to invest up to $65 billion in AI development

Meta Platforms Inc (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) plans to invest up to $65 billion in 2025 in projects related to artificial intelligence (AI), including the construction of a new large data center and an increase in the hiring program. This was reported by Bloomberg on January 24, citing a statement by the corporation's CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
"This is a monumental effort, and in the coming years it will advance our core products and business, unlock historic innovation and strengthen America's technology leadership," Zuckerberg said.
According to the agency, the company plans to use the funds to build a data center "so large it could take up a significant portion of Manhattan." In addition, Meta intends to put into operation more than 1.3 million GPUs by the end of 2025.
It is noted that analysts expected capital expenditures of $51.3 billion in 2025, according to estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Meta shares initially declined in pre-market trading, but then rose 1.4%.
Earlier on January 21, US President Donald Trump announced the creation of Stargate, a company that will invest up to $500 billion in AI as part of a new partnership with OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank. The organization will build physical and virtual infrastructure to support the next generation of neural networks.
Before that, on January 13, the United States imposed new restrictions on the export of chips and models of artificial intelligence (AI) in order to protect the interests of the country and national security. It is noted that in order to strengthen national security, it is important that the country does not take this critical technology abroad, and the global AI to work on "American rails".
On January 9, American billionaire Ilon Musk said in an interview with Stagwell Chairman Mark Penn that humanity has exhausted the stock of knowledge for training artificial intelligence (AI) models. Musk said that in order to develop artificial intelligence, it is necessary to use data generated by the AI itself, which will lead to "self-learning". He also believes that by the end of this year, artificial intelligence could surpass human capabilities.
