A doctor spoke about the benefits of green tea
Green tea has a number of useful properties. Viktoria Shurupova, a member of the industry expertise center "May" and pediatrician, told "Izvestia" on January 27 whether it is true that this drink helps to lose excess weight.
According to her, green tea is rich in antioxidants, especially catechins, which have a variety of health-promoting properties. Among the catechins, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), valued for its potential to affect metabolism, deserves the most attention.
"Green tea has the ability to stimulate fat loss, which makes it attractive for people trying to control their weight or speed up their metabolism," the expert elaborated.
The doctor added that in addition to helping with weight control, green tea has shown positive results in improving insulin resistance and reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Its antioxidants also help improve cardiovascular function by reducing inflammation and helping to normalize blood pressure and cholesterol levels. That said, some studies show that green tea may slightly reduce appetite and increase calorie expenditure.
Although green tea has significant benefits, it is important to be realistic about its effects, the expert said.
"The drink should be considered solely as an addition to a healthy lifestyle that includes a balanced diet and regular exercise," Shurupova emphasized.
She said that it is a useful and tasty drink that may have some benefits for maintaining health and weight control, but it should not be considered a full-fledged means for weight loss. The main thing in the fight against excess weight is a comprehensive approach, proper diet and physical activity, the doctor reminded.
"If you want to add green tea to your life on a regular basis, do it wisely. Remind yourself that weight loss is a process that requires time and effort, and that natural products such as green tea can only support you on this path, not become a panacea," Shurupova concluded.
Earlier, on December 16, 2024, Oksana Mikhaleva, a nutritionist and endocrinologist at SM-Clinica, told Izvestia that some people should limit or completely exclude coffee from their diet. This applies primarily to children, pregnant women and people with high blood pressure. Speaking about children, she noted that up to 12 years of age coffee in the child's diet should not be. And after that, no more than one cup a day can be given. For adults with no health problems, the norm is two to three cups a day.
