Kusturica calls Borisov's Oscar nomination meaningful for Russians


Serbian director Emir Kusturica called the nomination of Russian actor Yury Borisov for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in the movie "Anora" significant for the Russian people. He shared his opinion in a conversation with Izvestia on January 24.
"This is very important for Russians, because this is one sign that Russians will be again in this world of Hollywood, that they will be where they should be," Kusturica said.
The director characterized the Russian actor as a nice and fragile in physique, conveying his nature to the films. Thus, according to the interlocutor of "Izvestia", Borisov can cope with any role.
The screenwriter also said that Borisov in his movie, shooting which is planned for this summer, will play the role of a young director.
Kusturica shared details about his future movie. So, her hero wants to make a movie based on the book by Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky "Crime and Punishment" with the same name and will receive in this regard the offer to earn a large sum for the murder of a woman.
The day before, January 23, it became known that Yura Borisov was nominated for the American film award "Oscar" in the category of "Best Supporting Actor" for the film "Anora". The movie will also claim the statuette in the category "Best Original Screenplay".
Before that, on November 13, 2024, Kusturica in the New Media Forum, answering the question "Izvestia", predicted the film based on the work of Fyodor Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment" the status of his best work. He emphasized that it would be an interpretation of the work.
