A predatory toothy duck, which refused to fly to warmer climes, was spotted on the Griboedov Canal in St. Petersburg. This was reported by biologist Pavel Glazkov in his Telegram-channel "To each creature a pair".

"This is a female medium-sized merganser. A large duck the size of our mallard. The bird has a long narrow beak, for which it received its second name - long-billed," said the expert, his quote is quoted by TV channel "78".

The crocodile feeds on fish, not plants, as other representatives of ducks. Feathered successfully nest in St. Petersburg on the Gulf of Finland. They are characterized by high fecundity: in one brood can be about two dozen chicks. At the same time, the female can also raise other people's ducklings.

In the summer of 2024 a toothy duck with 53 chicks was spotted near Sestroretsk. Presumably, this particular individual was seen on the Griboedov Canal. The heroine mother was tired of raising such a number of children, decided to save her strength and not to fly to Western Europe for wintering.

Earlier in January it was reported that on the river Vuoksa in the center of Priozersk noticed swans-clikunov. Usually this species of birds goes to the west of Europe to winter, but recently some birds have been staying in the Leningrad Region to spend the cold season.
