The majority of Russians surveyed (49%) believe that even one day of refusing digital devices can have a positive impact on eyesight - it will increase the level of eye health and allow them to rest. This is stated in the results of a survey of online pharmacy SBER EAPTECA and ophthalmology clinic World Vision Clinic, which were read by "Izvestia" on January 26. Experts conducted a survey for the World Day Without Internet and found out how much time Russians spend at the screens of digital devices.

In addition, 36% of respondents believe that the period of refusal should be a longer period of time, 15% noted that one day does not matter.

Over half of the participants (53%) spend more than six hours a day looking at the screens of digital devices. Nearly a quarter (20%) spend between two and four hours, 18% spend between four and six hours and only 9% admitted to spending less than two hours a day in front of a screen.

Among those who plan to spend the Day without Internet away from digital devices, 32% are going to do household chores, 18% will read a book, 15% will go for a walk, 11% will spend time with family, 8% will devote time to their favorite hobby, 6% will do sports and take care of their health, 3% will make a day trip and the same number (3%) will go on a romantic date. 2% of respondents will have a shopping day and play board games with friends.

Zarina Kurachinova, Chief Ophthalmologist of World Vision Clinic, noted that regular limitation of time in front of screens - even for one day - can help restore the natural balance and reduce negative consequences for vision. In this case, the load on eye muscles is reduced, the frequency of blinking is restored, and the natural process of eye moisturizing is resumed. She advised not to neglect the opportunity to temporarily give up access to the Internet and use this day to organize an effective rest for the eyes.

"To maximize results, you should perform simple eye exercises throughout the day. Close your eyes for two seconds, then open and blink rapidly for 10 times - this will help moisturize your eyes. Focusing exercise - you should first look at an object in the vicinity, at a distance of no more than 15 cm, then move your gaze to the distance and repeat up to 10 times", - recommended Kurachanova.

She also told how to quickly relieve eye strain. To do this, you should slowly move your eyes to the right and left, then up and down and in a circle, repeating the exercise for five times in each direction. To improve blood circulation, it is worth massaging the temples and the area around the eyes with light circular movements.

At the same time, experts-pharmacists SBER EAPTECKI recommend to give your eyes a complex support not only from the outside, with the help of moisturizing drops and exercises, but also from the inside - the preservation and maintenance of eye health is promoted by regular intake of vitamins and useful supplements for vision. Lutein and zeaxanthin complexes are particularly effective, according to experts.

Earlier, on November 25, 2024, INVITRO North-West ophthalmologist Inna Varivoda told Izvestia that omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zinc and vitamins A, C and E can help prevent such problems as yellow spot degeneration, cataracts, impaired twilight vision and light perception. She also noted that long periods of gadget screen viewing can lead to eye strain, distance focusing problem, dry eye syndrome, and head, back and shoulder girdle pain.
