Petersburgers were promised not to be left without smelt

Residents of St. Petersburg will not be left without smelt in the coming 2025. This statement was made by representatives of the Federal Fisheries Agency on Friday, January 24
This is how the agency commented on the information that the traditional smelt season in the Northern Capital is under the threat of disruption. Agency officials did not issue a permit for fish extraction to any of the fishing collective farms because of the new rules.
"Smelt fishing is carried out in April. The term for issuing permits for (the) catch of this aquatic biological resource, established by the Federal Agency for Fisheries, is 5 working days", - explained in Rosrybolovstvo, the quote is cited by TV channel "78".
As emphasized by representatives of the agency, in practice, the permit is issued in less than five days, provided that the application is properly executed.
Recommended by scientists catch of smelt for 2025 is 897 tons. To date, 31 permits have been issued for catching 566.2 tons. Last year 2024 fishermen caught 650 tons of smelt.
On the resulting situation with complaints next week in Rosrybolovstvo will hold a separate meeting.
Earlier it was reported that investment quotas for fishing in Russia are proposed to increase from 15 to 20 years. The corresponding bill has been prepared by Rosrybolovstvo.
