Russia does not support the freezing of the conflict in Ukraine because it can be used by the West to build up military influence on Ukrainian territory. This was reported on January 24 on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"We are in favor of a truly final, fair and sustainable solution with the elimination of the root causes of the crisis. Temporary truce and freezing of the conflict is unacceptable," - stated in the statement.

It is noted that the freezing of the conflict will be used by Western countries to strengthen the military potential of the Kiev regime, as well as for "armed revenge" against Russia.

In addition, it is specified that the resolution of the conflict requires reliable and legally binding agreements that will guarantee the prevention of renewed escalation.

Earlier, on December 26 last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia seeks to end the conflict in Ukraine, not to freeze it. The head of state commented on the information about the possible end of the conflict in 2025 with a Russian proverb: "That is what they say among our people, yes, you should drink honey with your mouth".

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
